LCAT19X : Listing Catalog for Windows Information about the program usage Title : LCAT Version : 1.9 Date : February 7, 2000 Author : J R Ferguson E-mail : j.r.ferguson @ iname.com Download: http://hello.to/ferguson (MS-Windows Tools English) Usage : Windows 3.1/95/NT application This program may be used and copied freely without charge, but only for non-commercial purposes. The author is not responsible for any damage or loss of data that may be caused by using it. LCAT replaces the programs LSTCATV (DOS) and LSTCATW (Windows) by the same author. It is distributed in two versions: 1. LCATnnX.ZIP - Executable and Help file only 2. LCATnnS.ZIP - Source files (Borland Delphi v1.0 and EDITHELP) In both names, nn stands for a 2 digit release number. General information ------------------- LCAT is a listing catalog. It helps you find printed source listings, textfiles, printed documents or in fact any objects connected to a filename. With LCAT you can view and maintain a list of filenames connected to group identifiers. A group identifier is a code for a place you store the listings. This may be a folder or portfolio or bookshelf number, or anything that groups file listings together. Typically, the file listings are ordered alphabetically within their groups. To make your catalog have a more 'human' interface, LCAT allows you to attach a free format description to each group identifier. The main data file ------------------ The main datafile contains only filename, extent and a group identifier for each listing entry. This is the file you open and save using the File menu commands. Its name is saved in the LCAT.INI file, so when LCAT is started, it automatically reopens the datafiles that were used the last time. Lcat support two main data file formats: one for 8.3 DOS filenames, and one for long filenames as used in Windows 95, Windows 97 and Windows NT. The default extension for a DOS name data file is .lca. For long filenames it's .lce. You can convert a .lce file to a .lca file and vice versa using the File|Save As menu command. When you create a new catalog, you have to choose which of the two file types you want to create. You can maintain the main datafile from the main application window by using the Edit menu entries Add, Change and Delete. Also, such menu entries are provided in a pop-up menu, activated by pressing the right mouse-button over the main window listbox. The group data file ------------------- The group datafile contains a list of group identifiers and descriptions. This file has the same filename as the main datafile, with an extension of .LCG. The group datafile is automatically opened and saved together with the main data file. To maintain the group datafile, you open the group list dialog by choosing the Group list option from the main window's Edit menu. The group list dialog has its own Edit menu, and also provides a pop-up menu, activated with a right mouse-button click.
